WHY: 12-year-old with a commitment to helping raise funding for global clean water projects

Felicity "CiCi" Fanco, a 12-year-old from Michigan, is an enthusiastic multi-sport athlete with a passion for running. Inspired by her mother's mission to conquer marathons in all 50 states, CiCi embarked on a parallel journey, driven by an insatiable desire to explore new horizons, build connections, and amass a distinctive collection of race medals. As CiCi aims to conquer a 5K and half marathon during the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon weekend, her enthusiasm extends beyond the thrill of a new state conquest. CiCi's commitment to philanthropy shines through as she encourages others to join her family in supporting Team World Vision's mission, a charity dedicated to funding global clean water projects. CiCi hopes to raise $15,000 to provide clean water for 300 children. In her pursuit of fitness and philanthropic goals, CiCi hopes to make a positive impact on the world and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

Chris Ray- Addie Ray Racing Foundation

WHY: Running for (and with) daughter who navigates life with Angelman Syndrome

Chris Ray generously shares the inspiring journey of his family's unwavering commitment to inclusion and determination, spotlighting their daughter Addie, an in-chair athlete. Addie, who bravely navigates life with Angelman Syndrome, defied expectations from an early age when her parents resolved to provide her with a 'normal life' devoid of limitations. Inspired by his wife Michelle’s commitments to half marathons, the family embarked on a journey to involve Addie in races, starting with 5K events and eventually participating in triathlons. Memorable milestones for the family include completing 70.3 triathlons and pushing Addie through their inaugural marathon in 2020. The Ray family is excited to participate again in this year’s Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon weekend, which holds a deeply cherished place in their hearts. They are drawn to the marathon for its vibrant atmosphere, profound sense of purpose, and the shared highs and lows experienced by their entire team—both in-chair and out.

WHY: Local honoring her “Hero” and raising crucial awareness of Neurofibromatosis (NF).

Karen Daly's compelling 'why' for participating in the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon revolves around her Neurofibromatosis (NF) Hero, who received exceptional care at Erlanger's Children's Hospital. Her running journey is fueled by a deep-seated desire to honor her hero and shine a light on Neurofibromatosis, raising crucial awareness. Karen's journey began when her hero was diagnosed with NF at the age of 3, followed by an Optic Nerve Fibroma diagnosis at age 4, which necessitated chemotherapy treatment from Pediatric Oncology. Despite it being more than three years since the last treatment, Karen and her hero continue to receive care and support from the hospital, with regular checkups by nurses and doctors. Grateful for the unwavering care received, Karen is not only dedicated to the marathon but also committed to supporting local organizations that have been a pillar of strength for her family throughout their challenging journey with NF.

Michael’s 'why' for participating in the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon is deeply anchored in his remarkable weight loss journey. Over the past four years, he has shed over 200 pounds, transforming himself into a dedicated long-distance runner. Since completing his inaugural half marathon in May 2021, Michael has achieved an impressive tally of over 60 half marathons across 31 states, conquered a full marathon, and participated in numerous other races. Driven by his passion for running and the desire to connect with inspiring individuals, Michael has set an ambitious goal to finish 100 half marathons in all 50 states. His journey has not gone unnoticed, earning him significant media attention with features in Men’s Health Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and other prominent outlets. Michael also serves as an Ambassador for the Atlanta Track Club, where he passionately shares his transformative story to inspire others facing health and life challenges. He emphasizes that positive change is achievable for anyone willing to take the first step.

Known affectionately as "Captain Puerto Rico" among local runners, Angel Rivera found his way into the world of running through a game of tag with his daughter. Determined to keep pace, Angel, age 76, has become a fixture in numerous races, fearlessly taking on challenges, including the formidable Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon. Determined to continue his running journey until he reaches 100, Angel's unwavering commitment to the sport and his resilient spirit stand as a testament to his enduring passion for running.

Missy Elliott

WHY: Running for her husband, Jay, who suffered from cardiac ventricular tachycardia and is recovering.

On Oct 22, 2022, Missy’s husband, Jay, suffered a cardiac ventricular tachycardia at work. Thankfully, a coworker performed CPR, and upon arrival, EMS used the AED 2x to bring Jay’s heart back to rhythm. He was rushed to the Erlanger Hospital Emergency Room. There, Missy and Jay were met with the most comforting staff. Over the past 15 months, Jay has been in great care and is doing great! Before the incident, Jay and Missy ran the Erlanger Chattanooga Half Marathon together, but this year, Missy will run while her biggest supporter, Jay, cheers her on and plans to be back in the race in 2025.
