Hamilton County Hotel Data

  • 54% hotel occupancy for the week ending July 18, down 26% from 2019
  • Week ending July 18: $84 average rate, down 18.7% from same week in 2019
  • Hotel revenue as of July 18: $9.6 million month to date
  • Slow recovery but heading in the right direction
  • Downtown specifically – averaging 50% occupancy; but down about 17% for July
  • Travelers:
    • Groups and festivals continue to cancel
    • Leisure travel will continue to be our bread and butter

Tips from attractions on reopening safely

  • Learn and adapt constantly
  • Guests continue to want reassurance of cleaning & safety measures – publicize your safety measures
  • Partner with other attractions/organizations to boost attendance
  • Create online activities for students who are studying from home (Medal of Honor created Adventures in Valor program)
  • Transition to online ticketing with timed entry
  • Screen staff daily, make masks mandatory
  • Create one-way traffic patterns
  • Expand outdoor seating into non-traditional spaces
  • Add numerous hand washing/sanitizer stations (Rock City customized their displays to be birdhouses)
  • Open a gift shop, retail is up (Rock City up 14%)
  • Sell more pre-packaged foods, inside dining is down
  • Analyze your attendance & employment numbers (Rock City June attendance at 2019 levels, Incline Railway at 84% projected attendance; Rock City back to full employment)
